Apigenin & Sleep Spindle Density

2025-02-23//READ: 4 MIN//BY CHEMGRADE RESEARCH

GABA-A Modulation

Apigenin is a bioflavonoid found in chamomile. It acts as a positive allosteric modulator of the GABA-A receptor—the same receptor targeted by benzodiazepines (Xanax), but with a much milder, non-addictive profile. It quiets the "noise" in the brain.

Sleep Spindles & Memory

Recent research suggests Apigenin increases the density of "Sleep Spindles"—bursts of brain activity during NREM sleep. These spindles are directly linked to the consolidation of new memories (transferring data from short-term to long-term storage). More spindles = better learning retention.

Dosing

50mg - 100mg taken with a fat source (dinner) improves absorption and helps prevent night-time awakenings.
