The Cellular Battery

NAD+ (Nicotinamide Adenine Dinucleotide) is required for sirtuin activation and DNA repair. Levels decline by ~50% by age 50. Supplementing NAD+ directly is ineffective as the molecule is too large to enter cells. We must use precursors.

NMN vs. NR

  • NR (Nicotinamide Riboside): Has more human safety data. Entering the cell, it must convert to NMN before becoming NAD+.
  • NMN (Nicotinamide Mononucleotide): One step closer to NAD+. Recent discovery of the "Slc12a8" transporter suggests NMN can enter cells directly, potentially making it faster acting.

The Methyl Trap

Metabolizing high doses of NMN/NR requires methyl groups (TMG). If you take precursors without TMG, you risk depleting your methyl pool, leading to fatigue. Always stack NAD+ boosters with TMG (Trimethylglycine).
