Acetylcholine Precursors for Working Memory
2025-02-11//READ: 5 MIN//BY CHEMGRADE RESEARCH
The Learning Molecule
Acetylcholine (ACh) is the primary neurotransmitter responsible for working memory, muscle contraction, and logical processing. "Brain Fog" is often a symptom of cholinergic depletion. To boost levels, we must supplement a choline precursor.
The Bitartrate Trap
Most cheap focus supplements use Choline Bitartrate. While it is 41% choline by weight, it has extremely poor efficiency at crossing the Blood-Brain Barrier (BBB). It is excellent for liver health, but useless for cognitive enhancement.
The Superior Forms
- Alpha-GPC: Rapidly crosses the BBB. Studies show a significant increase in acetylcholine release post-ingestion. Ideal for acute focus or pre-workout.
- CDP-Choline (Citicoline): Also effective, with the added benefit of replenishing uridine levels (dopamine receptor density). Ideal for daily long-term use.
ChemGrade Protocol
Alpha-GPC (300mg) taken 45 minutes before deep work sessions. Best stacked with Huperzine A (an Acetylcholinesterase inhibitor) to prevent breakdown.
