L. Crispatus for Vaginal Microbiome

2025-03-07//READ: 4 MIN//BY CHEMGRADE RESEARCH

The Protective Shield

A healthy vaginal microbiome is dominated (>90%) by Lactobacillus species, which produce lactic acid to maintain a low pH (3.5 - 4.5). This acidity prevents pathogens like Candida (Yeast) and Gardnerella (BV) from surviving. The "Gold Standard" protective strain is Lactobacillus crispatus.

The Dysbiosis Loop

Antibiotics, stress, and sexual activity can deplete L. crispatus. Once gone, pH rises, allowing pathogens to overgrow. Taking generic "Gut Probiotics" (like L. acidophilus) is often ineffective because they fail to colonize the vaginal epithelium.

Strain Specificity

Do not buy generic probiotics. Look specifically for L. crispatus (Strain CTV-05 or similar). Oral administration is effective, but results take 3-4 weeks as bacteria must migrate from the rectum to the vaginal tract.
