Phosphatidylserine for Cortisol Blunting
The Stress Shield
Cortisol is necessary for waking up, but chronic elevation destroys the hippocampus (memory center). Phosphatidylserine (PS) is a phospholipid that naturally occurs in neural membranes. Supplementation acts as a "damper" on the HPA axis, blunting the excessive release of ACTH and Cortisol in response to physical or mental stress.
Mechanism: "Wired but Tired"
Many high-performers suffer from evening hyper-arousal—physically exhausted but mentally racing. This is often due to a dysregulated Cortisol curve (high at night). PS is the primary tool to force this curve back down.
Source Matters
Old studies used Bovine (Cow) PS, which is no longer available due to infection risks. Modern Sunflower or Soy Lecithin PS is effective, but requires a dose of 600mg - 800mg to match the potency of the older bovine versions.
Clinical Context
This compound is frequently utilized in the Sleep Optimization and Cortisol Management protocols.
